I am not a harp player but am curious as to whether any musicians here have bought previously owned harmonicas?

Would there not be some pretty important hygiene issues involved??

I must say that the thought of buying a second hand harp is really quite sick! Actually buying it is ok, but playing it , i can imagine drawing a good sound out of it in the middle of a nice solo only to find a bit of the previous owners breakfast flying down my throat .
I would only buy a second hand harp if was owned by someone famous or if it looked good, i have been given an old chromatic by someone (about 40 years old), i have never properly played it, mainly because i can't play chromatic's anyway!
I think that a lot of people don't buy second hand harps because there will be generally worn out reed plates anyway!

You said it, Jonesy. I am often more intimate with my harps than with my girlfriend. And there is no reason to buy a used diatonic harp. A decent hohner goes for ~$20 new.
