John Fahey passed away on Thursday, February 22, following a complex sextuple heart bypass operation in Salem, Oregon. Fahey, who would have celebrated his 62nd birthday on February 28, had been battling a series of ailments including diabetes and Epstein-Barr Syndrome (causing chronic fatigue) since 1987. Mr. Fahey was best known as a quirky, yet highly talented acoustic guitarist – revered for his innovative ability both as a player and a composer. His career spanned nearly 40 years, with the debut of Blind Joe Death in 1964, which quickly became his signature work along with releases such as Voice of the Turtle in 1968.
