John Fahey passed away on Thursday, February 22, following a complex sextuple heart bypass operation in Salem, Oregon. Fahey, who would have celebrated his 62nd birthday on February 28, had been battling a series of ailments including diabetes and Epstein-Barr Syndrome (causing chronic fatigue) since 1987.

Mr. Fahey was best known as a quirky, yet highly talented acoustic guitarist – revered for his innovative ability both as a player and a composer. His career spanned nearly 40 years, with the debut of Blind Joe Death in 1964, which quickly became his signature work along with releases such as Voice of the Turtle in 1968.

A memorial service is to be held on Sunday, March 4, 2001 at 3:00PM in the Paulus Lecture Hall and Lobby at the Collins Law Center, Willamette University, 245 Winter Street, Salem, Oregon. Click here for a map to the location.

Further information is available at the John Fahey Website.
